Did Adam and Eve succumb to hamstring injuries?
I don't know if hamstring injuries (and other leg muscle injuries) have been around as long as Adam & Eve, though I imagine they've been around a long time.
I'm no religion or bible expert, but it sounds like old Adam and his partner in crime Eve, more than likely succumb to "GROIN" strains than those of the hamstring variety... if you know what I mean.
Anyway, while the hamstring tear, the calf niggle, the quad tweak or the groin strain (call them what you like), have been around a long time, I do believe that there has been an increase in the number of these injuries over the last 25 years.
Not a decrease!
I suffered my first hamstring injury around 26 or 27 years ago, so I've been curious about these things for a long while.
Since that time there's been an explosion in organised training, an explosion in information on training and rehabilitation methods and kids often start organised training while at school.
For mid life folk like myself, many sign up for gym memberships, cross-fit escapades, personal trainers etc.
I firmly believe modern training (especially strength) has contributed to the increase in the number of leg muscle injuries. Modern training methods used by the majority, often bring about leg muscle injuries.
Many people don't suffer from leg muscle injuries until after they've started doing strength training of some kind. I go through the reasons for this in No Muscle Strains.
You see, while all types of training: speed, strength, endurance & flexibility have an impact on your body, strength training can lead to unwanted changes in and around your muscles & joints faster and to a greater level than the other types of training.
Unfortunately, most strength & conditioning coaches, personal trainers, exercise physiologist and the FizzyO's, Plodiatrist and Shamopractors who "dabble" in providing strength training programs... Unfortunately, the majority of them unwillingly and unintentionally set people like yourself up to become injured.
There's nothing evil about their intentions and they're not bad people. They've just jumped on the wrong train and they're heading down the wrong track, taking good people like you with them.
If you're fed up with the track you're on and not getting the results you want from the people you've been following, perhaps it's time to look at another way of thinking about leg muscle strains, which is exactly why I put together No Muscle Strains.
